Check out my new message board at http://aptforum.karenkruska.com ! It's still in development stage, but all the basic functions work, so start registering and posting!
I'm Karen, currently a research assistant at Oxford University.
My research interest is in energy applications. I believe that protecting our planet Earth and therefore the development of clean, sustainable energy sources is the most important task given to my generation. This task includes finding new ways for loss-free energy transport and creating storage capacities. The improvement of renewables, such as wind, solar, hydrothermal and tidal power, the safety of light water reactors and the design of materials for a fusion reactor are in the scope of my interest.
I enjoy using microscopy to discover the appearance of the matter around me at a molecular or atomic scale. It amazes me how well ordered, symmetric and beautiful ordinary things look, if only we look closely enough. Through my work in the Atom-probe and Nanoanalysis groups at the Department of Materials I have acquired skills in atom-probe tomography, (S)TEM, EFTEM, EELS and EDX. I am proficient at using the FIB for sample preparation and 3D data acquisition.
